Review-Mary Kay Timewise Microdermabrasion Set

Years ago a I noticed a friend's skin bloom into a rosy state.  She used to have breakouts and oily skin.       She credits her new skin to Mary Kay Timewise Dermabrasion Set.  I was a bit skeptical at first.  After all, she just got married and for all I know her 'sudden bloom' could be just a flush form their recent honeymoon.

Last year another friend got into the Mary Kay business.  Like my other friend she also magically bloomed, so to speak.  Rosy, dewy, healthy looking skin and all.  And because she was a good seller, (oh boy how she really put on the best salestalk for this!) I was convinced to give it a try.  I was really hesitant on this for a number of reasons.  First, this Mary Kay set didn't come in cheap.  I had to pay 3,000.00 for a set which, when I saw first, i wasn't really happy with because the scrub came in a small tube and the moisturizer in a small bottle.  Second, I really am lazy when it comes to skin care.  Though I love skin products, consistency is the key isn't really my motto.  I'd use a certain product a few days, get tired of it, stash it somewhere in my drawer.  But then I really got talked into it.  So I took the plunge.  Hehe.  Here's what you get for 3,000.00:

The tube is the scrub.  You have to use it first and then use the moisturizer ( the one in the bottle in a upright position).  That's step 1 and step 2.  Not very tedious at all, I must say.  And I actually felt fresher after using both.

My verdict:

Two thumbs up.  If I had more thumbs then well more thumbs up actually.  The scrub and moisturizer were practically scent free so no allergic issues here.  The scrub made my skin feel sooo much cleaner than if I just use my regular bar of soap.  And definitely less drying.  The moisturizer made my skin supple and if I'm just at home I can actually go by without powder.  I only use the set twice every week on a 2-3 day interval.  (Okay to be honest on the first few weeks I was excited about it and used it 2x a week but after a few months i was using it once a week and gasp! Once every 2 weeks. Hehe.) My set's gonna turn 1 year old on September and there's still a lot left so I guess the price wasn't that bad, either.  And I definitely saw a bloom to my skin especially when I was using it religiously in the earlier months.  The only thing I didn't really like about it was that I think something's wrong with the tube pump on the moisturizer.  When i squeeze it the moisturizer squirts every which way and I end up wiping the globs on the surfaces and put them on my face kasi sayanggg!  Later on I learned to squeeze the tube with  my palm covering it so i have all squirt directions covered.

Here's a picture a few weeks back. I wish I'd taken before pics.

No make up, no suklay taken at 4pm in the afternoon.  Last applied Johnson's baby powder at lunchbreak, approx 1pm.  I know it's not artista skin. Hehe.  My point is just that even without make up and hours ago since you put powder on it's not oily and ngarag looking masyado.

There's my Mary Kay experience.  What's yours?

Xoxo :)

Doritos Tacos

Rainy weekends are the best! ( i mean not the torrential downpour weekends.  More like drizzling weekends).

The kiddos wanted to eat tacos but with no taco shells we improvised and used Doritos instead.  Here's our recipe for our "tacos".

What we need:
Ground pork, tomato sauce or salsa, cheeses, cabbage, tomatoes, onion, garlic,Doritos in taco flavor, salt and pepper, a bit of olive oil, aluminum foil.

Now we get to the cooking portion.  Sauté onion and garlic in a bit of olive oil.

When done put in the ground beef.

Next put in tomato sauce or salsa, whatever is in your kitchen.  You will have to use your instincts for measurements. :).  We used a bit of tomato salsa and cheesy salsa:

Season with salt and pepper to taste and wait till it's done.

Next cut aluminum foils into rectangles.  I wrap everything in a foil so whenever we want to eat it it's already assembled and we only have to pop it in the microwave to heat it.

Put tomatoes, cabbage, ground pork and shredded cheese.  You may add bell peppers and everything else you want.

If you are going to wait a while before you eat it I suggest you save putting the Doritos for later so it won't turn soggy.  Just put them in when you're about to serve it so it's crunchy.

Seal the foil if you're still not gonna eat it.

There's our Doritos taco recipe.

Bye, have fun eating!

Fleeting Moments

Thank goodness for holidays!  ( Err, non overtime holidays.)

Over breakfast today my kids were in a playful mood, not the usual scurry hurry mornings we have when it's a school/workday.  I noticed my little girls hair was really falling over her face and with a jolt I remember her last bang cut was February.  It's gotten pretty long it covers her eyes all the way to the tip of her nose when she's not wearing a headband.  I rummage through my drawers for a pair of good scissors and ask her if she'd like mama to cut her bangs.  She beamed and said yes.  We were all set on blunt, full bangs. (She saw it on TV and since then we were cutting her bangs this way.)

Now the cutting part.  And with a flash I remember I read somewhere a mom is also a nurse, a teacher, a playmate and all other things rolled into one.  Well, this mom is a hairdresser too.  I part her hair and snip snap through the front crossing her shut eyelids and she twitches.  She's scared that I might accidentally snip her eyelids off.  I tell her Mama's really extra careful and that I'd never ever hurt her and she relaxes.  After I cut her bangs she opens her eyes and looks into the mirror.  She thinks it's the best cut ever, not caring about how off it looks on one side and how a bit chopped zigzagly it is near the center.  (Aside form these few flaws I think she looks cute in her new bangs).

Ok Dora.  There you go.

I don't think it would be long until she notices her mama isn't really the best hairdresser there is.  Soon she'll realize mama doesn't really know everything.  Soon she'll falter in her trust for mama and when it happens I know I won't be getting anywhere with a pair of scissors near her hair.  Moments are fleeting, as it is.  But memories of us, bang cuts and all are forever.
